Braga and Guimarães - Pousada Santa Marinha

After my stay in Porto, today I continued to Braga and Guimarães. Braga proudly claims to be Portugal's religious capital. But at the same time, there are so many students living here that it calls itself Europe's youngest town with the same confidence. The city contains more than 30 religious buildings, such as the fountain Fonte do Ídolo. After 2 hours in the city of Braga, we continue to the place of pilgrimage Bom Jesus. After this, I as an atheistically inclined person had had enough of churches etc. We spent the afternoon in Guimarães.

For Portuguese children, a trip to the "cradle of the nation", Portugal's first capital, is a must. Travels enjoy the beautiful old town with its narrow alleys, romantic plazas, historical buildings and artistic treasures, at the foot of the forested Serra da Penha. We took a short break in the Gothic quarter Largo da Oliveira. We then visited Paço dos Duques de Bragança and the Castelo de Guimarães. Guimarães is twinned with Kaiserslautern.

We spent the night in the Pousada Santa Marinha with a view over Guimarães. The Pousada Santa Marinha is absolutely to be recommended, the pictures speak for themselves.

On Sunday I flew back with Lufthansa from Porto to Frankfurt, and had a funny experience in LH Business Class again. As always, menus for the meal were handed out, but in the end there was only one meal which could be chosen. The food for Economy Class had to be heated up in the front of the machine as well. So after an hour's flight there were still no drinks. In any case, the Bavarian-looking and -speaking stewardess informed the Business Class guests gently "Fish is off, only pork left". The flight took an extra 30 minutes after landing, because there had been a car crash on the runway.
