Successful trip to Pico on the Azores comes to an end
The last day at sea began very quietly - hardly any contact with animals. In early afternoon then small swarms of fish (probably mackerel) and loud bird calls in the vicinity. It did not take long for the first dolphins to swim by to take a bite. I tried of course to photograph hunting dolphins in the fish swarms. Unfortunately the spotted dolphins were not at all amused, and rocketed away. So I was only able to catch pictures of the fish underwater. As I came out of the water, the dolphins amazingly started to jump. We rode in the boat so that the dolphins were jumping towards it.
The day slowly came to an end, and I collected my equipment together for the journey back. On the way back to the harbour, João Quaresma suddenly stopped the boat and just said Mola Mola. I jumped into the water with swimming trunks and ABC equipment and took photographs of the peaceful creature underwater. He was quite shy, so I could not photograph the Mola Mola from the front. After 5 minutes he had had enough, and vanished into the depths of the ocean. With that, the trip came to a spectacular end, fitting with the encounters with animals over the last few days.
