First day at sea
Today was my first day on the water, and it was very successful. I had very good encounters with Risso's dolphins, and with Atlantic spotted dolphins . It was very good to work with the animals underwater.
The schools of spotted dolphin passed by me under water at speed, but some animals from the school came back sometimes to me. For whatever reason !? Was it curiosity ? The pictures of returning, or rather circling dolphins, seeming almost playful, are particularly good. In this situation I can concentrate on the photograph more, as I don't have to dive after the animals. The animals are there and easy to get into the focus.
The Risso's dolphins come back to divers seldom, so that one must dive against the swim direction of the dolphin school. On making sight contact with a school of Risso's dolphin under water, one should swim slowly in the rough direction of the group. No hectic movements, or pushiness :-) Only then will the school stay together. With this method it can however happen that even a wide-angle 12-14mm Nikon lens will not get all the animals from the school onto the picture :-)
