Aviva wants to take over Prudential – “Follow-up to British life insurance and TEP market”

The English insurance market is on the move, and that will also give the share flotation - demutualisation - of Standard Life a boost. The largest insurance company in England - Aviva - wants to take over the English Prudential company. As I already wrote in my entry from the 05.03.06, it looks like insurance holders and shareholders of English insurance companies have a good year 2006 to look forward to. Even if the takeover of Prudential by Aviva does not come off, there will be other mergers in other constellations in the financial branch. I am still waiting for big announcements from HSBC and Royal Bank of Scotland. The last takeover in Englsnd that I know of was the takeover of Abbey International by the Spanish Santander Central Hispano.

Background article from the Financial Times Deutschland from the 20.03.2006.
