Our consumerist world and its morals

Via Zeit Blog - Category Economics - Herd Instinct - Robert von Heusinger

Greed is good... as was recognised already by the fictional character Gordon Gecko (played by Michael Douglas) in the film "Wall Street" from 1987. Whoever lives and consumes in this society, especially in the time before Christmas, should keep their criticism to themselves. Most critics are just jealous of the money, in order to acquire even more unnecessary consumer articles, but nobody admits it! A moral assessment of the payments and the judgements are thus idle. The rules of the game are clear, after all, I can't understand the whole excitement and discussion about it... Has anyone changed their phone company for their flash mobile because of it? People change because of the costs, but not for moral reasons! Would anyone donate their Christmas shopping to help save the great loser of our actions (the environment)? Not an alibi donation, but properly and with all their conviction!?

So in this sense - merry Christmas and please buy lots of bangers! I always have Metro shares in my account before Christmas and New Year.
